Christian Mushenko’s latest collection of powerful, stunning oceanic images capture the colour, texture and vibrancy of Australia’s coastline. Opens 6 January 2009, Charles Hewitt Gallery, Darlinghurst. Affinity explores Christian Mushenko’s fascination with the attraction and deep connection so many people have with the ocean. The exhibition reveals the beauty and intensity of the sea, as seen from the shores of Sydney’s Manly beach. Opening on Tuesday 6 January 2009 at Charles Hewitt Gallery, the exhibition - in collaboration with Lynda Howitt - comprises 16 of Christian’s large format images.
“The coast is such a powerful metaphor for our hopes, dreams and future possibilities. The enormity of it and the beauty, power and sense of infinite are often a direct access to the emotions we are feeling at the time,” says Christian Mushenko.
“How often do we walk along the shore with a new love, or sit staring out to sea when we experience a loss? I remember someone saying once that horizons are so important. The ability to look out to a horizon can put us in touch with the divine in a way that is sometimes hard in a built up area.”
